Children’s Hospital Nurse Practitioner recognized for child abuse advocacy

For the third year in a row, the Child Abuse Protection Team at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger has been recognized by the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) of Hamilton County.

The One with Courage Awards Dinner on April 9 celebrated champions of children who enrich their lives through help, hope and healing and honor individuals who support the children through giving, service and voluntarism.

This year’s event recognized Ashley O’Barr, a pediatric nurse practitioner at Children’s Hospital, as the Child Protection Investigation Team Member of the Year. The award honors Ms. O’Barr for the dedication, service and advocacy she provides to the team and patients.  Her role on the team provides medical expertise and treatment to the victims of sexual assault.

Other Children’s Hospital team members recognized by CAC in recent years include Lillie Rucker, CMA; Julie Zielinski, MD; and Karla Garcia, MD. They each won awards for their service to the children and caring for victims of child abuse.

The Children’s Advocacy Center is a non-profit agency that provides a safe and caring environment for abused children so that they can receive the services they need in one comprehensive facility. The center is accredited by the National Children’s Alliance and provides forensic interviews, medical examinations, therapy and family advocacy, which are offered at no charge to children referred by the Department of Children’s Services or law enforcement.  For more information about the Children’s Advocacy Center, visit www.cachc.org.
