Clinical research conducted at Erlanger Health System has been highlighted in two national medical journals and featured prominently in an article authored by Harry W. Severance, MD, FACEP, Medical Director for the Erlanger Institute for Clinical Research, and emergency medicine physician for Erlanger Health System.
“Developing New Pathways for Clinical Research Through the Changing Environment of 21st Century Healthcare,” written by Dr. Severance, was recently published in the Journal of Technology & Innovation.
Dr. Severance and research at Erlanger were also featured prominently in a second article, “Advancing Clinical Research in a Gray-Hatted World: Prospects for Clinical Trial Economics,” in the September 2014 issue of the Annals of Emergency Medicine. “Erlanger is mentioned several times as being more advanced in some types of clinical research than other areas of the country,” Dr. Severance said.
Through his affiliation with Erlanger and the UT College of Medicine, Dr. Severance is responsible for recruiting and overseeing clinical research trials in all areas of the Erlanger Health System, ranging from intensive care to cardiovascular medicine to oncology, at Erlanger’s downtown location and Erlanger East Hospital. He has authored dozens of papers that have been published in national medical journals. He also serves on the board of directors for the Duke University Cooperative Cardiovascular Society.
After receiving an undergraduate degree from Duke University, Dr. Severance received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his residency training at East Carolina University.
