Drs. Alpers and Keel Join Erlanger Health System

Erlanger Health System welcomes the addition of two new physicians: Joshua Alpers, MD, with the UT Erlanger Neurology Group, and Christopher Keel, DO, with Academic Urologists at Erlanger.

Dr. Joshua Alpers, who is board-certified in neurology, neuromuscular medicine, and electrodiagnostic medicine, has joined UT Erlanger Neurology Group. Though his interest extends to all aspects of neuromuscular medicine, he has specific interests in chemodenervation for various movement disorders and in disorders of the neuromuscular junction and peripheral nerve hyperexcitability.

 

Dr. Alpers completed undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri-Columbia and the Université Jean-Moulin in Lyon, France. After earning a medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force.

He completed his intern year in internal medicine, followed by a residency in neurology, at Wilford Hall Medical Center/Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. His training culminated in a fellowship in neuromuscular medicine at Duke University. As a Major in the United States Air Force, Dr. Alpers served as the Chief of Neurophysiology at Wright-Patterson Medical Center/Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio.

Christopher Keel, DO

Christopher Keel, DO, urologic surgeon, is the newest addition to the growing physician practice of Academic Urologists. He has specific interests and extensive experience in robotic and minimally invasive urologic oncology, urologic reconstruction and endourology.

Dr. Keel, a native of Chattanooga, earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He subsequently received his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He completed an internship in general surgery at Tulane University Medical Center and the Spirit of Charity Trauma Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Keel received additional robotic and urologic training at Tulane University Medical Center through the Department of Urology.

While at Tulane, Dr. Keel was the recipient of several awards recognizing his achievements in researching the impact of surgery on the kidney. For his dedication to patient care and leadership, he was recognized as the “Physician of the Year” at the Spirit of Charity Trauma Center and Interim LSU Public Hospital.
