Erlanger continues dedication to leading-edge trauma care with 8th Annual Trauma Symposium

If you’re a medical student, practicing nurse, EMT, doctor, physician, physical therapist — well, anyone in patient care — then join Erlanger’s commitment to innovation in critical care, and learn from the leading trauma experts at the 8th Annual Trauma Symposium on June 4 and 5.

This year’s symposium includes keynote speaker Kimberly D. Manning, MD, FACP, FAAP — WebMD pediatric contributor and frequent guest on Dr. Oz, Headline News, and CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 — and Erlanger trauma specialists, flight nurses, and other leading experts from the only Level 1 trauma health system serving a 31,000-square-mile area across Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina.

Another highlight of the symposium will be an inside look at Erlanger Regional Operations Center (EROC), a groundbreaking development in pre-hospital communication management with operators available 24/7. This new, high-tech control center serves 13 counties — 10 in Southeast Tennessee and 3 in North Georgia. EROC continuously communicates with LIFE FORCE flight nurses, who specialize in around-the-clock air-drop patient transportation.

EROC operators are organized into pods controlling various pre-hospital sectors. For instance, one pod dispatches Puckett EMS ambulances, another is on-call should disaster strike, and yet another handles patient care and logistical issues within Erlanger Health System — the list goes on.

The overall purpose of EROC is to make medical communication smoother and simpler, where all dialogue passes through a single location — a nucleus for telecommunications — and medical professionals congregate and collaborate anytime, anyplace, on the air.

During the annual symposium, these EROC trauma care specialists and other top health care professionals will relay invaluable patient knowledge. Administrator for the Trauma Symposium Beth Jordan says she hopes you’ll walk away with one word in your mind: “Wow.” She knows you’ll learn more than any class you’ve ever taken. Because it’s not just about lectures and note-taking — it’s professional advancement. And it’s something you’ll never forget — fun, creative, innovative.

Beth says the two-day conference is a wonderful learning opportunity where participants will not only receive valuable information from visionaries in the field but actual hands-on experience with the addition of the cadaver lab — conference first. Beth says the long-awaited, unique cadaver lab will enhance learning since “most medical professionals, besides doctors, don’t have the opportunity to experience cadavers, so this hands-on experience with visuals of a spleen or liver or lung is not an opportunity most people get.”

The 8th Annual Erlanger Trauma Symposium is June 4, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, and June 5, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. For more information, check out our informational brochure. Spots are filling up fast. So, register now ($125/day or only $175 for both days).
