Erlanger Health System and UT Erlanger Women’s Health Specialists announce the addition of Dr. Susanna E. Carter to UT Erlanger Women’s Health Specialists, located in the Tiftonia and Lookout Valley area. Dr. Carter will be joined by Drs. Michael Sprague and English Rockholt.
Dr. Carter earned her Medical Degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama, and continued her training at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga where she completed her internship in obstetrics and gynecology. Prior to joining UT Erlanger Women’s Health Specialists, Dr. Carter completed her residency at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga, based at Erlanger, where she was the recipient of the 27th Annual Resident Research Day Award.
Dr. Carter specializes in all aspects of women’s health including general OB/GYN including pregnancy, well-woman visits, postmenopausal health, and contraception. As a triathlete, currently training for her second Ironman race, Dr. Carter is a huge advocate for physical fitness and health eating. “I believe strongly that being active and eating well have a large impact on female psychological, sexual, and reproductive health,” states Dr. Carter.
In addition, she has a special interest in preventative medicine and adolescent gynecology – particularly educating young women early about the importance of reproductive, sexual, and overall health.
“I want to provide a supportive and relaxed environment for women to ask questions or express concerns,” states Dr. Carter, “I see myself more as a teacher than a physician because I believe women can live a more fulfilled and healthier lives when they are equipped with knowledge about their bodies and learn how to take an active role in their health. Knowledge is power.”
