As the region’s only Level One trauma center, Erlanger is always prepared to care for patients with severe injuries and/or illnesses. Protocols are and have been in place for just about any scenario. This includes viral infections and providing isolation rooms and protective barrier measures for patients and employees.
In fact, all hospitals are equipped and will work together to share the responsibility under the lead of the Hamilton County Health Department should there be any wide-spread infection of any kind.
Patient screenings and staff education/training at Erlanger have been in place since the Ebola outbreak began. Currently, Erlanger’s primary focus has been on educating emergency room staff on how to identify cases quickly, an important key to prevention.
If you arrive at any one of Erlanger Health System’s six emergency rooms with symptoms of infection, you will be asked questions to determine the cause and severity of your case. Please do not be alarmed and answer the questions to the best of your knowledge.
