Erlanger’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Dan Fisher, weighs in on the Erlanger Modernization Act

Erlanger’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Dan Fisher, weighs in on the new bill that will pave the way for Erlanger’s Hospital Authority board to create a 501(C)3 not-for-profit organization.

Dr. Fisher states , “I want to commend the Hamilton County legislators for introducing a bill which will enable the Erlanger Hospital Authority board to create a new 501(C) 3 not for profit organization. This change of status has become a common business practice in the rapidly changing healthcare industry, and one that has been long needed at Chattanooga’s leading hospital.

I have practiced surgery at Erlanger for 25 years and currently serve as Chief of Staff. I feel strongly that this move will have a major positive impact on the way Erlanger does business in the future.

This Modernization Act will allow Erlanger’s Board, of which I am currently a member, to more effectively focus resources on quality patient care, and not on administrative functions that are outdated and unnecessary. It will allow Erlanger to move quickly and decisively to respond to current market conditions.

Erlanger needs to operate as efficiently, competitively, and effectively as possible. This bill enables this region’s essential hospital to do just that.”
