Chattanooga, Tenn. – Through a lead gift of $300,000 from Jonathan and Wendy Ransom and their foundation, Emily’s Power for a Cure, a new pediatric CT Scanner was purchased for the sole purpose in diagnosing and treating children at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger.
The Ransoms established the Emily’s Power for a Cure foundation after losing their daughter , Emily , to cancer in 2006. Through their foundation, they inspired a community of supporters to help complete a $1.2 million fundraising project to honor the memory of their daughter.
The new 64-slice CT scanner will allow the staff at Children’s Hospital to diagnose critically ill and injured children more quickly and accurately. In addition to producing multiple detailed images of the inside of a patient’s body, the new CT imaging suite is designed with a child-friendly Western theme. The “CT Ranch” engages young patients’ imaginations and helps to alleviate fear and anxiety before their scans.
